The Canada Goose has landed

The Canada Goose has landed

This Canada Goose looked huge as he landed, honking loudly as he did so.  A spectacular bird.  May be common (and a bit messy) but love ’em just the same.

Sure has – and he’s obviously a float plane 🙂

I live in Pasadena, California, and we have several pair of Canada Geese that stop and nest at the local high school on their way north. This year two pair arrived on February 26th and stayed for about three weeks. Once the eggs hatch, the goslings get ushered by the parents to the aquaduct that is nearby. Last year we had several more pairs. This started in 2007 and has been going on every spring since. I gather they can be quite messy when they land in large numbers and stay for awhile, but ours get looked after by the teachers and students, and it’s quite something to see one of these large birds waddling across the roadway to get to the grass on the median. If they decide to fly across, it’s an even an even stranger sight! I put up some photos on my blog last year.

I think Canada Geese are lovely, handsome birds. Because they are so common in the UK we tend to not pay them much attention. I love the flypasts in large V formations as they come over the house, honking. Wonderful sight.

They may be messy but they are wonderful to watch.
