I can fly!

Heron flying

This heron seems to be almost celebrating the art of flying.  Magnificent bird, (with a few bad habits). This shot reminds me of a high diver leaving the top board.

Certainly does look like a high diver. Do herons dive? I can’t remember. So long since I have seen one.

I see herons daily but they are nervous birds and it’s difficult to get a good shot. They don’t dive for their prey, rather they stalk. They stand almost motionless for a long time, watching the water and slowly move in, and then strike very fast with a stabbing action. They will also take the young of other birds such as ducklings and pretty much anything small enough to swallow such as frogs, etc.

Ah yes, thank you for that description. I can now recall seeing a heron doing exactly that. Just needed a little trigger for my memory 🙂
