Cabbage white resting in the shade

Cabbage white resting

This cabbage white butterfly was caught resting in the shade before going off to wreak havoc on some unsuspecting gardeners. Not every gardener’s friend but there is a place for everything and it is beautiful, even if it does like laying eggs on your cabbage plants.

I have noticed that there are more of these about this year than normal!

Me too. I have seen lots of cabbage white and peacock and a very small number of small skipper and that’s it. Butterflies did have a bashing last year with the rain and the cold spring this year so hopefully this summer will help them recover.

Looks a bit ragged – I think it may have already wreaked havoc…

They still come visiting even though I have given up trying to grow cabbages. They look pretty and I don’t have to worry that they are ruining anything in my garden 🙂

Yes, I think netting is the only hope of growing cabbages around here. They seem to have recovered the most vigorously of all the butterflies, following the wet weather last year and the cold spring this year.
