Apples, apples and more apples

apples

This is one bumper year for apples. I have never seen so many and the trees are almost falling over with the weight of them.  I was picking damsons and plums on my walk with the dogs yesterday and filled two bags from the fruit in the hedges along the lanes. There are some compensations for the coming of autumn. I do love the food at this time of year. Apple and blackberry crumble can keep me going well into winter.

Are you going to be jam making all autumn?

I won’t as I don’t have the necessary skills but thankfully my wife does, and yes she is already hard at it, pans simmering and filling the jars and the kitchen smells lovely.

Beautiful, beautiful apples. What a harvest. Have you started the cider making yet?

Not yet. I’m looking for a simple method but I don’t have the necessary equipment for the more sophisticated way of doing it.

Great photos…coincidentally, my most recent post re:Thoreau is in sync with your post 🙂

Thank you. Although the passing of summer is always a sad time I do love autumn. It’s a joyous time and one that reminds me how fortunate I am.
