Over the hills and far away

A view across Dartmoor, looking glorious in  autumn colours.

Oh! Lovely! I spent two glorious autumn weeks in North Bovey with my family in the late ’80s. Some bright days, mostly mist and fog though, which made the surrounding moors all the more perfect. Your photo captures what I remember of the vast beauty. Thanks for this wonderful photo and the subsequent memory-jog.

Thanks. I’m delighted to have brought back happy memories. Dartmoor in the mist is a stunning place with a special atmosphere.

    Beautiful! I love the clouds!

It reminds me of how long before you can see the Rocky Mountains driving toward Denver, Colorado in the USA, you see the clouds hanging over them, giving the impression of the mountains themselves.

As a child riding to Colorado in the family car to visit the grandparents, I remember vividly the little squabbles among my siblings and me over who saw the mountains first…!

“That’s just the clouds you saw. I saw the Rockies first!”
    “Did not!”
    “Did too!”

And so on. I’m sure my mother and father, reasonably tolerant folks who generally didn’t intervene on this issue (too smart to try to resolve it, I’m sure!) were thinking, “Are we there yet?!” LOL!

This is a lovely scene in a lovely country. I enjoy your photos a lot and only wish they were larger.

Excuse me! What was I thinking! Of course they can be enlarged by clicking on them! This photo is especially stunning enlarged, a brilliantly composed and magical scene.

Oh, I should have read this before replying. I think there probably is a way to enlarge them with a single click but I don’t know what it is. I always click them twice and that does it.

Thank you. Lovely memories. I have promised myself I will see the Rockies one day. Maybe on a west coast rail journey. I’m really pleased you enjoy the photos. I try to strike a balance with size. They come up a reasonable size for viewing on screen if clicked twice. I try to be reasonably economical with the file size to make sure I can fit a year’s photos in. I have really enjoyed sharing them and people have been very kind about how they have liked them so I am thinking of doing something more ambitious once the year-long challenge I set myself is completed.
