Birmingham Library
Another Birmingham photo. This time the magnificent new library. You have to have seen the old one to really appreciate how good this one is.

I love the pattern on the facade – it creates a pleasing texture.
It is quite stunning close up.
Hooray for new libraries. We are looking forward to a lovely new central library too.
Yes, nice to see they still have an important place in our hi-tech society.
Beautiful building! Great facade! Thank you!
Thank you. It also has a lovely roof terrace with spectacular views across the city.
A town that loves its library is an excellent recommendation!
I’d agree with that.
Impressive-looking, from the outside.
It is, and quite spectacular inside too. I hope it gets well used.
I’m sure it will be. 🙂
The design of this building is crazy! Thank you for visiting my blog!
You’re welcome; and yes, it is a little crazy.
I never saw the old library. This one has certainly been getting a lot of press coverage. It is an impressive building.
The old library building is still there but not in use. In its own way it was iconic but many argue an example of concrete ugliness; its style known as ‘brutalist’ and I would not disagree. Prince Charles attacked the old building saying it looked like ‘a place where books are incinerated, not kept’. It was very well used though, second most used in the UK in fact.
Never knew Prince Charles had a sense of humour. ‘Brutalist’ is a great term – I look forward to using it next time I see an ugly concrete structure.
I see you have photographed Heaven- and a bicyclist too! Fabulous! Smiling cheers,
Autumn Jade
Thank you for stopping by and liking. I did think the cyclist would add to the shot so I waited for him to cross the frame, and I think it worked.
Yes! It really worked beautifully. Cheers!
