Necking

Necking

Two love birds ‘necking’. Swans are just gorgeous whatever they’re doing. They often display this kind of mirroring behaviour and I was taken by this synchronized feeding.

With a beautiful long neck like that, necking makes prefect sense.
Kind of like a bird version of a giraffe. 😉

They are so well synchronised; it’s incredible.

awesome couple…I’ve been told swans can be temperamental, what has your experience been with these two???

I see the swans most days and this time of year we have a huge influx of wintering birds. I wouldn’t say they were temperamental. They will defend their nest and young very strongly but will always warn you to back off by hissing loudly. I adore swans so maybe I’m biased but as long as they are treated respectfully they are no problem at all. They can be quite tame. They will even recognise individuals and follow them if they know there is food about. They do it with me.

Nature at its best – simplicity with elegance. Thank you.
